The institution date of this award is unknown. It was instituted and awarded by the commander of KG 30 (bomber wing 30, nicknamed "eagle wing").

The shield was awarded for special merits towards the bomber wing. It was handed out in a black case with an inlay of white velvet or silk. Award numbers are unknown.

The plaque is rectangular and made of zinc. It shows the bomber wing's crest, an attacking eagle. Above the crest is a raised bar with the word "Adlergeschwader".

The German title for this award is "Adlerschild des Kampfgeschwaders 30".
