History
The decoration was instituted between August 5, 1940 and September 23, 1943 by Colonel Nikolaus Graf von Luckner, commander of air warfare school 3 in Werder an der Havel. The purpose of this award, as well as any detailed information about its institution, is unknown.
The medal is copper-coloured and shows a Luftwaffe eagle with swastika on a pebbled surface. A smooth half-circle around the upper half of the medal carries the inscription "Luftkriegsschule - 3", and a raised bar below the eagle carries the inscription "Werder a H", both in Gothic letters. Underneath this, the recipient's rank, last name, and presumably dates of service at the school can be found. The reverse presents a facsimile signature of Luckner, as well as his title and function (Oberst u. Kommandeur, colonel and commander).
The medal was awarded in a red case.
The German title given to this award by historians is "Ehrenmedaille der Luftkriegsschule 3". Its original title is unknown.
