History
The award was instituted by General Martin Fiebig, presumably in 1944. Luftwaffe Command Southeast was stationed in Greece, its operating area included the entire Balkans region.
The award is in the form of a shield, featuring a Luftwaffe eagle with swastika facing to the viewer's right superimposed over a outlining of southeast Europe. Above the eagle the inscription reads: for special merits in area southeast. Underneath the eagle the inscription continues: the commanding general and chief in Luftwaffe Command Southeast, followed by a facsimile of Fiebig, followed by his rank, General der Flieger.
The plaque is tinted in bronze colour. Fakes of this award are known to exist.
The German title of this award is "Plakette des Luftwaffenkommandos Südost".
