The plaque features an award number on the reverse, which was also featured on the accompanying award document. The highest number known to have been awarded is 8995.
There are two patterns that differ greatly in their designs.
The 1st pattern plaque is rectangular with a raised edge. It features a 1st pattern "droop tail" Luftwaffe eagle, facing to the viewer's right, the inscription underneath it states: for special merits / the commanding general and chief of Air District Norway. At the bottom is a circle with a man riding on a reindeer. The plaque is old gold or copper-coloured.
The 2nd pattern plaque is rectangular with a border of intertwined swastikas. It features a 2nd pattern Luftwaffe eagle with swastika, facing to the viewer's right. The inscription reads: for special merits / the commanding general and chief in Field Air District Norway. The plaque is old gold-coloured.
The German title for this award is "Ehrenschild des Luftgaukommandos Norwegen".
