Physical Description
A circular medal constructed of gold. The obverse bears the bust of King Ernst August encompassed by the inscription "ERNST AUGUST KOENIG VON HANNOVER". The reverse bears the inscription "FÜR KUNST UND WISSENSCHAFT". On a loop for suspension. The medal is stamped by either "BRANDT F." or "FICKENSCHER" or "BREHMER F.".
History
The Gold Medal for Arts and Science was established by King Ernst August of Hanover on Apil 30, 1843. The medal was conferred in recognition of outstanding achievements in the fields of art and science. The award could be conferred upon both men and women. The medals are engraved on the sides with the recipient's initials, and occasionally with the title of said recipient.
The obverse of the medal features the portrait of King Ernst August.
