Physical Description


A circular medal constructed of bronze. The obverse centre bears a Leopold cross with the crowned cipher of Ernst August in the centre with the date "1813". The reverse bears the date "1813" within a wreath of laurel. On a loop for suspension, with a yellow and white striped ribbon.

History


The Volunteer Service Medal 1813 was established on May 11, 1841 by King Ernst August. The medal was conferred upon subjects who voluntarily fought in 1813, and to foreigners who joined the Hanoverian army. The medal was non-returnable.
