Mecklenburg-Strelitz


Mecklenburg-Strelitz was a Grand Duchy from the younger line of the the House of Mecklenburg, residing in Neustrelitz. It was located in in Northern Germany, like the neighbouring Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
It was formed in 1701 by the east of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Herrschaft Stargard and the west of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Principality Ratzeburg. The larger, southeastern part of Mecklenburg-Strelitz formed until 1918 one of three knightly circles of the Mecklenburg state. In the Weimar Republic Mecklenburg-Strelitz became a Free State. In 1910 has Mecklenburg-Strelitz a population of 106.442.
On January 1, 1934, the reunification with Mecklenburg-Schwerin to the state of Mecklenburg. The reason was the pressure from the National Socialist.
