History
The German Atlantic Meteor Expedition Medal was instituted by the Research Aid Society of German Science to commemorate the German Atlantic Expedition of the ship "Meteor" between 1925 and 1927.
The I Class Medal was conferred upon Naval Officers and civilian scientists aboard the Meteor. The Medal features a surmounting gilt wreath.
The II Class Medal was conferred upon crew members of the Meteor. The Medal features a surmounting silver wreath.
The medal was designed and manufactured by the Bavarian Central Mint. The edge of the medal is stamped "BAYER. HAUPTMÜNZAMT. FEINSILBER".
There were a little over 200 medals awarded in total, 23 of which were I Class Medals and 188 were II Class Medals.
