Charles Jacques Corneille Buls was born in 1806. He became a jeweller located at No. 35 Marche aux Herbes in Brussels. His mark, two crossed branches under the letter B, is evident in the Dutch Period (1815-1832) and the Belgian Period (1832-1869). Charles Jacques died in 1878.

His son, Charles Gommaire Buls, born 1837 became a silversmith and eventually burgomaster of Brussels from 1881 to 1899. Charles Gommaire died in 1914.
