History

On January 2, 1908 the Ottawa branch of the British Mint opened on Sussex Drive. Due to the large gold production of the Yukon and British Columbia, the mint made high-quality Gold Bars, which Britain used to pay off debts during the First World War.

The Mint passed into Canadian ownership in 1931 and remains active.
