History

The Medal for Bravery was instituted by Khedive Abbas Hilmi II in 1913. The Medal was created as the highest bravery decoration under the Egyptian Monarchy and is awarded in 3 Classes. The Medal rewards Egyptian military forces, police, and civilian personnel for acts of both military and civil gallantry and bravery. The Medal was replaced by the Military Medal of Courage (see EGY151) and the Civil Medal of Courage (see EGY142) following the revolution in 1952.

The Silver Medal is presented as the II Class award.
