History

The October 6 Memorial Medal was instituted on February 16, 1974, to reward service in the October 6 War; or the "1973 Arab-Israeli War." The conflict was also known as the "Yom Kippur War" or the "Ramadan War." The Medal was awarded to all Armed Forces personnel who served between October 6, 1973, and February 2, 1974. Soldiers of Arab contingents who fought alongside Egypt and other foreigners who contributed to the war effort may also be eligible for the award of the Medal.

When the ribbon is worn alone, a bronze disk inscribed with the numeral "6" is authorized for wear on the ribbon.

The Medal features Arabic inscriptions on the obverse and reverse.
