History

The Excellent Order of Independence (Esteghlal) is awarded by the president of Iran in recognition of service which advances the nation. Personnel who hold positions in high offices who have aided in achieving significant goals of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who have made distinguished innovations towards self-sufficiency and independence, have saved the government from potential threats, aided in the global proliferation of the principles of the Islamic Revolution, or who have provided other valuable services during critical periods, qualify for the award of the Order.

The award of the Order has a contingent of 4 members per presidential term.
