History

The Medal for the May 1941 Revolt (Nut Harkat Mais 1941) is thought to have been established in 1959 in commemoration of the 1941 Iraqi Rebellion led by Prime Minister Rashid Ali al-Gaylani, between May and April, which brought about the deposition of pro-British regime of regart Abdul-llah and Prime Minister Nuri al-Saud and the installation of Rashid Ali al-Gaylani of Prime Minister of Iraq. However, the Medal may also have been made in commemoration of the subsequent British-led revolt which overthrew the pro-axis government and resulted in the re-occupation of Iraq by British Armed Forces. More research is needed to confirm the regulations of the award.

The Bronze Star features an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translates to "May 1941."
