History
The Rescue Medal, 1954, also known as the Iraqi Army Flood Rescue Medal or the Salvation Medal, was instituted in 1954.
The Medal was awarded to Iraqi personnel who assisted in the 1954 rescue operations following the massive flooding of the massive flooding of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. British Army and Royal Air Force troops who were stationed at the air base at Habbaniya were also eligible for the award of the Bronze Medal.
The Medal features an Arabic inscription on the reverse which translates to "Rescue Medal," "Iraqi Flood," and, "The Year 1954."
