History

Chief of Staff Medal of Appreciation Medal (Ot ha'araha) is was instituted by the government of Israel on April 26, 1981. The Medal is awarded to Israeli and foreign citizens and military personnel in recognition of contributions to the security of Israel and the strengthening of the Israel Defence Force (IDF). The Medal may also be awarded to organizations. It is estimated that only 10 Medals have been awarded.

The Medal may also be issued posthumously. Notably, the Medal was awarded posthumously to Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon.
