History
The Medal for Exemplary Conduct (Moftet), or the Medal for Distinguished Service, was instituted by the Knesset (government) of Israel by Medals Law, or Law of Decorations, in 1970, as Israel's third highest honour for bravery. The Medal is awarded by the Cheif of Staffs to members of the Isreal Defence Forces (IDF) in recognition of distinguished and outstanding service in action which serves as an example to fellow military personnel. Acts of composure, resourcefulness, comradeship-in-arms, and other courageous service demonstrated in the line of duty may qualify for the award. The Medal may be awarded retroactively, and it is estimated that approximately 601 awards have been made since the Medal's date of institution.
The Medal may be awarded posthumously.
Up to 1 miniature emblem in the design of the Medal is authorized for wear on the ribbon to denote subsequent qualifying acts of bravery.
There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by the composition, but more research is necessary to verify.
