History

The Police Medal of Valour (Itur Hagvura) was established by the Law of Decoration of Israel Police and Prison Service in 1972 or 1974. The Medal is awarded by the Minister of Internal Security to members of the Israeli police force in recognition of acts of supreme heroism in the line of duty and which involve a risk to personal life and safety. Civilians who have performed acts of legal arrest under arrest authority, fulfilled a legal duty, assisted police personnel performing a legal arrest, or who provided service during serious crimes or public disaster may also be eligible for the award.

The Medal may have been awarded posthumously.

Additional awards are denoted by clasps worn on the ribbon.

There are multiple versions of the Medal which vary by composition. There may be additional versions which differ by design which are not featured here.
