History

The Prison Service Medal (Itur HaSherut) was established by the Law of Decorations of the Israel Police and Prison Service in 1975. The Medal is awarded by the Prison Commissioner to members of the Israel prison service for outstanding contributions to the achievement of the goals of the prison service. The Medal is similar to the Police Medal of Service.

The Medal may also be awarded posthumously.
