History
The Prisoner's Award Medal was issued around 1961 and was awarded to members of the underground revisionist Zionist organization, the Association of Etzel Soldiers, who were deported and held in British detention camps in East Africa during the Hebrew Revolt and start of the Israel War of Independence between 1944 and 1948. Members of the Association of Etzel Soldiers who served for 6 months or more, who were wounded while imprisoned, or who participated in operational activities were also eligible for the award.
The Medal may also have been awarded posthumously to bereaved parents.
