History

The Battle of Karama Medal (Midalat al-Ma'araqa al-Karama) was instituted by King Hussein I in 1969. The Medal was awarded to members of the Jordanian Armed Forces in recognition of service in the defence of the Village of Karama during the 1967-1978 War of Attrition when Israeli forces crossed the River Jordan on March 23, 1968, which resulted in the withdraw of Israeli troops.

The obverse features Arabic script which translates to "The Battle of Karama" as well as a date in Arabic numerals which corresponds to "1968." The reverese features an Arabic inscription which translates to "Many a Small Troop Defeated a Large Troop in the Name of God, The Beneficent, the Merciful Truthful is Almighty God."

There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by composition.
