History

The Order of al-Hussein bin Ali was originally established by King Abdullah I of Jordan on June 22, 1949. The Order was created in honour of the King's father, and it was instituted 1 month before the assassination of the King. The Order was initially awarded in 1 Class to foreign heads of state only and was the highest knighthood Order of the Kingdom of Jordan. The Order was reformed by King Hussein on September 23, 1967; who extended the award to Jordanian nationals and added a second class and ribbon. It is estimated that only 8 Orders of the I Class were ever awarded.

The Badge features Arabic script on the obverse which translates to "Abdulah Bin Hussein."
