History

The Order of Military Gallantry (Wisam al-Iqdam al-'Askari) was instituted by King Abdullah in 1946 or 1948. The Order was originally conferred in a single grade as the Kingdom of Jordan's highest award for acts of bravery performed while under fire. The award of the Order is thought to have been later modified into 3 Classes by King Hussein. All ranks of the Arab Legion are eligible for the award of the Order.

The Order may also be awarded posthumously.

It is believed that Bronze Medals are issued as the III Class award of the Order.

The Order features an Arabic inscription on the obverse which translates to "Abdullah bin Al Hussein King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan" and an inscription on the reverse which translates to "Military Gallantry."
