History


The Order of Public Instruction, or Order of Public Education, was instituted by Government Law on December 5, 1930. The Order is conferred in 3 Classes to personnel who have rendered eminent public service to Lebanese education. qualifying service includes donating a building for use as a schoolhouse or providing scholarships to young Lebanese citizens.

The III Class is composed of bronze.

There are 2 versions of the III Class Medal which vary by inscription. Early versions issued during the French Mandate of Lebanon feature both French and Arabic inscriptions which translate to "Order of Public Instruction" and "Who Opens a School Closes a Jail" on the obverse as well as "The Republic of Lebanon" on the reverse. Later versions issued post-independence feature only Arabic inscriptions. The date of institution of post-independence Decorations is uncertain.
