    History


    Sultan's Distinguished Service Medal (Midal Khidmat al-Mumtaza us-Sultaniya was instituted by Sultan Said bin Taimur in 1967. The Medal is awarded in recognition of meritorious service, devotion to duty, and for acts of gallantry in life threatening situations, but which are not performed in the face of the enemy.

    The obverse features an inscription in Arabic, translated as "Sultan Qaboos bin Said Sultan of Oman". The reverse features an inscription Arabic, translated as "For Distinguished Service".

    There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by design or composition.
