The 6th October Medal was instituted by Legislative Decree on February 15, 1974. The Medal may also be known as the Medal of Honour was awarded to both civilians and members of the Armed Forces for service in the Yom Kippur War with Isreal between October 6 and 24, 1973. It is estimated that approximately 45000 Medals were awarded.
The Medal features an Arabic inscription on the reverse which translates to "Medal of 6th October."
