History
The Order of Military Honour was instituted by Legislative Decree on July 4, 1953. The Order may also be referred to as the Order of the Legion of Honour and is conferred as Syria's highest military decoration. The Order is awarded in 4 Classes to military personnel in recognition of exceptional military bravery or leadership on the battlefield or for other services in the defence of the state. Military recipients must hold the rank of captain or above to qualify for the award and all recipients are initially admitted into the IV Class before promotion into higher Classes. Foreigners, as well as institutions who have contributed to the defence of the state, may also be eligible for the award of the Order.
The Brigadier is worn from a neck ribbon and is issued with a Breast Star as the second highest Class of the Order.
