History

The Order of Military Merit was established by Legislative Decree on July 4, 1953. The Order is bestowed in 3 Classes, plus an Excellent Class, to Officers and enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces in recognition of acts of valour, courage, and efficiency in military operations. Towns and factories who have made outstanding military contributions may also be eligible for the award.

The II Class Badge features a palm leaf emblem worn on the ribbon.
