History

The Order of Turkmenistan Turkmenbashi was created as a military award. The Order is conferred in recognition of acts of bravery, selflessness and courage, the protection of the nation. Meritorious service in strengthening Turkmenistan's defence, acts of exemplary military leadership, meritorious service in protecting border security, and exemplary police services which involve a risk to personal life.

Recipients of the award are also entitled to a monetary prize which is equivalent to 5 minimum monthly wages and a supplement to monthly wages of 30 percent of the minimum wage.
