History

This medal was conferred upon veterans of the First World War who were alive on the 80th anniversary of the Armistice, November 11, 1998.

The obverse of the medal features the Bullecourt Digger, a statue in the French town of Bullecourt which commemorates the 10,000 Australian soldiers who were killed or wounded during the first and second battles of Bullecourt. The reverse of the medal features the Federation Star over top of the inscription ‘LEST WE FORGET.’ Two sprigs of Golden Wattle, a tree that is native to southeastern Australia, form a wreath with an open top around the interior circumference of the reverse. The medal ribbon is red, with a black central stripe and a black stripe along each edge.
