The Police Overseas Medal was established on 25 April 1991 and is awarded to members of the Australian Police Force who render service with an international peacekeeping organisation or provide assistance to the government of another country.
The Medal is awarded with a clasp which denotes the area the wearer served in. To date, the clasps include the following: Bougainville, Cambodia, Cyprus, Haiti, Mozambique, Somalia, East Timor, Solomon Islands, Ramsi, Solomon Islands II, Sudan, Timor Leste, TPNG.
The obverse of the medal features a globe with a branch of golden wattle slightly overlapping the top. A chequerboard pattern runs along the interior rim of the obverse. The reverse of the medal features a blank rectangular panel superimposed over a Federation Star. The inscription ‘POLICE OVERSEAS SERVICE MEDAL’ encircles the Federation Star and blank panel.The Crown of St. Edward surmounts the medal and attaches to a metal suspension bar. The ribbon has a black and white chequerboard pattern.
