History

The Kiribati Long Service and Good Conduct Award (Kanikinaean Te Bekumwaka Ma Te Kakaonimaki) was established by I. Tabai, the Benetitenti, or President, of Kiribati by the Kiribati National Honours and Awards Act in 1989. The Kiribati Honours System was created to reward and recognise exemplary, meritorious, and distinguished service to Kiribati.

The Medal is awarded to any member of the Kiribati defence force in recognition of 20 or more years of service with good conduct.

Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters KBK.
