History
The Head of State’s Medal for Valour was instituted by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa by the Honours and Awards Act on August 25, 1999. It is conferred upon citizens, or foreigners in the form of an Honorary Award, to reward acts of extraordinary courage displayed during dangerous situations.
Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters HSMV.
The award is accompanied with a certificate and a miniature version of the medal and ribbon.
