History

This medal was instituted in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava. It was conferred upon those who participated in the official ceremonies, those who participated in the fields where the original battle had taken place, and those who helped to prepare the ceremonies.

The reverse inscription translates to: "Poltava 1709 Know About Peter That For Him Life Was Not Dear Only That Russia Might Live 1909".
