This Cross was instituted in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in the Caucasus. It was conferred upon officers in recognition of service in the 1857-1859 campaign. It may have also been awarded upon those who participated in the 1859-1864 Caucasian campaign.

The obverse is dated "1859-1909".
