This medal was created by Peter the Great in commemoration of the naval battle close to the island of Grengam, Sweden on July 27, 1720.
The gold medal was conferred upon higher ranking naval officers who took part in the battle.
The obverse inscription translates to: "By the Grace of God Peter the First Czar and Autocrat of All Russia." The reverse inscriptions translates to: "Dedication and Fidelity, Excellence. Force".
