History

This medal was established during the reign of Alexander II in commemoration of the war against Turkey. The light bronze medal was awarded to members of the Russian Army and Navy who served in the battles on the Caucasian or Bulgarian fronts, or in naval battles on the Black Sea.

The reverse inscription translates to: "Not Unto Us, Not Unto Us, But In Thy Name", and is a verse taken from Psalm 115.
