History

The Lenin Prize Medal was the most prestigious award of the Soviet Union. It was instituted on June 23, 1925 and was awarded for accomplishments in science, literature, arts, architecture and technology. In Russian, it is referred to as Ленинская премия or Leninskaya Premiya.

This medal became obsolete in 1934. It was largely replaced by the Stalin Prize from 1935 to 1956. However, it was re instituted on August 15, 1956 and was awarded on April 22, Lenin's birthday until 1990. On April 23, 2018, Sergey Ivanovich Morozov re-established the award for the second time.
