History
The Order for Personal Courage was established on December 28, 1988. This Order was conferred upon citizens of the USSR in recognition of valour and bravery in saving lives, service during natural disasters, crime-fighting, or other acts of personal courage. It was awarded a total of 529 times.
The order is made of one piece, composed of silver, gold-plating with white and red enamel. It is worn on a five-sided suspension. It measures 48mm in height and 44.5 in width. There are two variations. The serial numbers range from roughly 1-8000 for both variations.
Variation I is slightly concave on the reverse and has the mint mark Monetny Dvor in raised, curved letters in the center. A thin, raised, horizontal line at the bottom of the reverse. The serial number is engraved with a rotating tool. The lowest serial number observed is 169 and the highest is 7,895.
Variation II has a deep concave depression in the reverse. The center reverse presents a small Monetny Dvor mint mark. This variation does not have the horizontal line, and the serial number is machine engraved. The only observed serial number is 6,250.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "For Personal Courage". It also features the Russian letters for the USSR.
