History

The National Order of the Star of Education was established by presidential decree in 2002. It is awarded to employees of the Ministry of National Education and Higher Education (Ministère de l'Education Nationale et de l'Enseignement Supérieur, "MENESUP"), in recognition of meritorious service. Recipients must be at least 30 years old. It may also be awarded to foreigners in recognition of significant contributions to education in Djibouti.

All members of the Order are received as Knights. Promotions to the higher grades can only be made after a minimum of 5 years in the lower grade. There is an annual limit of 25 Knights, 10 Officers, and 2 Commanders, but foreigners are not included in these limits.
