History

The Order of the Grand Star of Djibouti is the highest decoration conferred in Djibouti. The President of the Republic is the Grand Master.

The Collar is composed of sixteen medallions connected by two gold-coloured chains. The medallions feature the initials "UEP" which stand for the nation's motto "Unité, Égalité, Paix" (Unity, Equality, Peace). The Collar also features a badge appendant from a centre link composed of the initials "RD" which stand for "République de Djibouti" (Republic of Djibouti). The badge appendant features an inscription on the obverse that translates to "Republic of Djibouti," along with the date of independence and the initials "UEP."
