History

This medal was conferred upon members of the South African Defence Force in recognition of gallantry.

The Honoris Crux Decoration was instituted on July 1, 1975 replacing the Honoris Crux (1952-1975). All four classes of Honoris Crux Decoration were replaced by the Nkwe ya Selefera (Leopard Decoration for Bravery) on July 25, 2003.

It may also be known as the Cross of Honour. The value of this medal increases with supporting documentation.
