History

This medal was conferred upon members of the South African Defence Force in recognition of gallantry.

This award was discontinued on July 1, 1975 and replaced by the Honoris Crux Decoration, a set of four medals. It is also known as the Cross of Honor.

The value of this medal increases with supporting documentation. There are multiple versions of this medal. All versions of this medal are silver and share the same inscription.
