History

This medal was conferred upon the winner of the annual South African Defence Force shooting competition.

This medal was previously known as the Queen's Medal for Champion Shots (1924-1938 and 1946-1961) and the Commandant-General's Medal (1965-1975).

It was renamed the South African Defence Force Champion Shot Medal in 1975.
