History

This medal was conferred upon members of the South African Defence Force in recognition of 30 years of impeccable service.

It was discontinued in 2003 and replaced by the Medal for Loyal Service (Medalje vir Troue Diens).

From 1975 to 1993, this award was known as the "South African Defence Force Good Service Medal, Gold."

The second striking of this medal is characterized by the absence of an SA Mint mark and there is no rim to the reverse.
