The obverse bears the oval shield taken from the arms of the United Republic of Tanzania, surrounded by a wreath of laurel and encircling the inscription on a background of blue enamel, the whole surrounded by a scalloped edge. The reverse is plain and polished.
The medal is conferred upon members of Tanzania's Military Forces and members of Tanzania's Police Force in recognition of courageous actions.
