History

The Argentinian Nation to Those Wounded in Combat Medal (Medalla de la Nación Argentina al Herido en Combate) was instituted in Argentina by the government of the Fourth Military Junta on the 15th of June, 1982. It was founded to reward the soldiers who were wound at the Falkland War (Guerra de las Malvinas) in 1982.

The Medal was suspended in 1985 along with the change of government, but it was reinstated by decree of the new government on the 10th of December, 1991.

The Medal has been awarded to foreign and Argentinian military personnel, security forces, National Guard, police and citizens, who resulted wounded in the performance of heroic actions in combat in defense of Argentina.

This Medal is the fourth most prestigious military decoration in Argentina Army Forces (A.R.A.)

Before 1991, the Medal featured a motto that translates to "The Fatherland to those Wounded in Combat.” Currently, the Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "The Argentinian Population to those Wounded in Combat.”

The Medal has been awarded to 1195 recipients until 2010.
