History


The Tupiza Medal (Medalla por la Batalla de Tupiza) was established by the Provincial Junta of Argentina on November 29, 1810. The Medal was awarded to Colonel Antonio González Balcarce and his troops who defeated a Spanish royalist expeditionary forces near to Suipacha, Bolivia on November 7, 1810.

This battle was the second battle of the Argentina’s War of Independence.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Military Action of 7th November, 1810, the Fatherland to the Tupiza's Victors.”
