History

The Buenos Aires National Guard Star (Estrella de Buenos Aires a su Guardia Nacional) was instituted by the Province of Buenos Aires, in recognition of the troops of the National Buenos Aires Guard who fought against Paraguayan forces in the Triple Alliance War (1864-1870). It was awarded also to the relatives of those who died in battle.

The composition of this Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was conferred upon Generals and Officers, while the Silver Medal was awarded to enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Buenos Ayres National Guard," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “To Courage and Constancy, the Province Gratefully, Paraguayan Campaign, 1865 to 1869.”
