History

The Corrientes National Guard Medal (Medalla de Corrientes a su Guardia Nacional) was authorized by the Province of Corrientes in recognition of the Corrientes National Guard (Guardia Nacional de Corrientes) who defended the city of Corrientes from a Paraguayan siege in the Triple Alliance War (1864-1870).

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank to the recipient; the gold Medal was conferred upon Generals, while the silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the bronze Medal to enlisted men.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Corrientes National Guard," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “To Courage and Constancy, the Province Gratefully, Paraguayan Campaign 1865-1869.”
